Meet Neil
To mark our first anniversary we ask the team members who make More Than A Cyclist tick their thoughts and reflections on the last 12 months.
“I’m Neil, the visual designer at More Than A Cyclist. A year ago, I volunteered to "do a few graphics” for a social media campaign. Since then I have created over 60 different images and animations, which have been seen by over 5000 social media followers across various platforms and countless others in secondary reach. They have featured on multiple media outlets, with the campaign receiving many plaudits for its visually striking images, and yet, whilst this is all very positive the sad reality is that when I asked myself what has changed, I find the answer to be anything but positive. Essentially nothing has changed, from the casual negligence of “I didn’t see you mate” to the deliberate verbal and physical aggression that cyclists are victims of every day.
Worthwhile things are rarely easy to achieve and of course, we keep striving to spread our message. Will this message ever make a difference? I clearly can’t say with any certainty, but what I do know is that if we do nothing, certainly nothing will change."
